In a medieval Joust they weren't permitted to bare pointed tips, because a joust was just like an Olympics. Their reasoning was for the participants to come again the next year, not go directly to the cemetery  Don't you think?

No your are wrong, there were Joust that would be to death, there were many fights for honour. And they cared many pointed things, one knight wanted to take the other down, after that he used knives or other weapon that could penetrate the armor. Another thing that happened was the winner could take the armor of the looser, so he would ask for money to give it back, an armor of that time cost almost as a house with 5 rooms today.
The client of this artwork is a specialist in medieval joust, armor and fights.
These joust were just like the duel of europe principally in France that in the century XVII more that 150.000 were killed fighting with each other, till a king finally prohibited.

Well... A tip of my hat to the commissioner, but still it's a bit farfetched... Goes to show the past didn't favor human life above honor and wealth at all

it is bollocks. he's just talking nonsense, exhibition fights to the death were extremely rare... besides such jousts were mostly in the 11th and mid 13th century with fully war-capable weapons.
